The top two photos are of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, designed by Thomas Telford.
Completed in 1805, the aqueduct carries the Llangollen Canal 126 feet over the river Dee. With a total length of 1,007 feet it is both the highest and longest aqueduct in the UK.
The aqueduct is famous for some of the more unusual methods used in it's construction; the mortar is made from a combination of lime, water and ox blood. To caulk the joints, Welsh flannel was dipped in boiling sugar, after which the joints were sealed with lead.
It was nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2006, 200 years after it was completed.
Check out the 360 panorama at http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/content/panoramas/pontcysyllte_aqueduct_360.shtml to see a view from the top.
does anyone else find it interesting that davoud resisted the urge to somment on the hen night snaps??
There was no real comment to make other than Harriet looks *very* drunk ;)
I'll agree with Davoud that Harriet does look completely intoxicated. But it does look like she's having a good time!
As for the pictures...the first two look incredibly intriguing. Very mystifying or ghostly. Since I'm into that sort of thing (your Dad calls it weird, or that I'm weird, one of the two!! lol) I'm going to check out the website and see what other info it might offer. Thanks.
